SUBMISSION: Echoing guitars, huge bassline, heavy grunge
synths, MASSIVE Numanesque chorus done in a bang up to
date fashion. The song is so catchy, it's dare we say, almost
'pop' and in a good way that will remind you of when pop was
actually bloody good!

'Submission' by Tenek is an electro driven popster that's instant, incredibly catchy and massively commercial. Tenek bring pop sensibility to the electro table with 'Submission'; it's a punchy, hard-driven song rammed with sonic whines, dark grooves, industrial noise and all kinds of techno wizardry. 'Submission' is quite obviously a great track for the specialist dancefloor but, unlike most of their contemporaries, Tenek give their song a massive dose of pop likeability that takes 'Submission' to another level altogether; no longer just a club-scene song but now a real contender for full-blown chart success in the open market.

'Submission' works on every level really; it's got Pet Shop Boys-esque instant appeal and Gary Numan oomph but without a hint of retro anywhere - quite a combination, quite a single!

'Submission' is an impressive pop song no matter what its genre nuances might be. Commercial all-day-long 'Submission' by Tenek, as a stand-alone song gets, the job done in radio-friendly style - must be a winner surely!!

A heavier take on the electro genre which has a solid driving beat and bass line. The chorus is strong and lifts the track. A sense of early Ultravox circa Systems of Romance, particularly the guitar, which is no bad thing. A track you can close your eyes to and let the music help your mind drift away.

With this single Tenek have showcased a balance not always achieved in this genre - a balance between good production, execution and well chosen sounds with the rarer element of a fantastically catchy chorus hook that you'll find yourself humming along to long after the track has ended. The vocals have a "genuine" quality and are not contrived or forced, having some nice subtle effects layered underneath. So what's the difference between the 5 different versions of Submission on here you may ask?

Ok... The radio mix (track 1) is the straight to point mix of tight Drums, synths and echoing guitars, featuring a excellent soaring lead sound behind the chorus vocal. Similar to mixes by Hybrid. This is the classic just over 3 and half minutes often cited as the ideal single length.

The next up (skipping track 2 for now) is the Starstruck Mix of Submission (track 3). This is a much longer affair at just over 7 and a half minutes. Stripped down but with the song still intact, gone are the guitars, focus now is on the kick drum and synths with lots of breakdowns, with a overall Moroder-esque vibe at times. This one is aimed firmly at the dancefloor.

Next up is Dubby's Dark Dimension Mix (track 4) This one is another extended length version coming in at just under 8 minutes. Keeping the 'radio-friendly' vibe of the radio mix by keeping the song structure fairly intact, a different flavour has been achieved through replacing the bassline with a more Human League/Dare type sound, along with the signature sound of this version - the electro snare/clap /snap which keeps it all together and makes it sound slightly faster (is it?). The soaring lead sound behind the chorus now replaced with a staccato gated version of itself. Midway through we are taken off into another direction (or Dimension!) with the synth breakdown/buildup. Lots of little rhythm machine sounds coming through most on this mix,.

On to the Toffeetronic Mix covering over 6 minutes is a showcase in performance... starting and ending with a nod to OMD's Enola Gay intro this one moves quite away from the radio mix into a more harder sound bringing the guitars more and more forward as the track progresses. This could be the "Electric Mix" and might appeal to those adverse to synths! This works extremely well.

Finally we get to The "Add your voice Mix". This basically the instrumental version of the radio mix... One for future Karaoke parties!

That's all the mixes, so now back to track 2, this is a track called "No Time For Fighting". This again goes for the pop jugular blending very human vocal with a harder sounding electrosynth stomp-along chorus.

Definately worth buying even if you plan to get the album Stateless which Submission is on, as the additional mixes here are strong enough to stand on their own. With the right airplay on the right stations this one could really go all the way...

When i first heard Tenek i thought it was good sounding pop, but the more i listen to them the more i hear the harder edge i crave. Submission is the perfect mixture of pop and balls. It's got scratchy electro sounds, smooth vocals and a kick sounding like rocky punching a frozen carcass. The chorus just takes the song to the next level, leaving you singing it over and over in your head for the rest of the day (the impact of the chorus reminded me of the numan/rico track crazier)

The track No Time For Fighting showcases Teneks ability to write a track which lyrically is sad but amongst the moody synths, the overall feel and sound of the track is uplifting, no need for the prozac with these guys!

I love the different feel between the radio edit and the dark dimension mixes, the radio edit mix will and does sound perfect for the live crowd whilst the dark dimension mix will go down a treat in the dance clubs. The sound quality of all the tracks is pristine and the listening pleasure is like fighting with a girl before she makes love to you, it kicks you in the nuts, pulls your hair and scratches your eyes out before smothering you in kisses and honey.

The starstruck and toffeetronic mixes are both great in there own right but maybe one mix too many, hey, once that ladies finished with you, a little time away is appreciated till your ready for more ;-)

This CD comes with one of the best tracks I've heard in my many years of synthetic exploration!

Check out the second track "No Time For Fighting" I know I shouldn't but this track playing loud in the car is going to loose me my licence! It's fast, pulsating, thundering and plainly speaking… a real gem.

Submission only equals this classic so for a couple of quid grab it whilst its here...

Geoff Pinckney and Pete Steer have also released this "Submission"-maxi been next to their album. It's definitely a good extract from the album although not my personal favorite one. We here get 5 versions of "Submission" and that's a damned good way to get totally brainwashed by this song. The mix of pure synth-pop with danceable elements and some guitar riffs works perfectly! The "Radio Edit" opening the tracklist is directly a cool piece while the kind of extended "Starstruck Mix" sounds like a climax. The "Dubby's Dark Dimension" version is more into wafting arrangements, bringing some diversity to the original version. The 2 mixes left are quite acceptable, but don't really add a bonus to the song. Next to the different versions of "Submission" we also get an exclusive cut entitled "No Time For Fighting". This is more than simply a filler. It's another cool Tenek song with a great bass line. I would for sure recommend the "Stateless"-album without any hesitation while this Mcd is just a nice addition for all those who'll like the album.
